3 - Days Onsite Training Work Shop: Installation and Maintenance of Lightning Protection Systems (LPS) – in accordance with NFPA-780 and DoD Standards.
This Workshop is designed to provide advanced training for electrical maintenance personnel responsible for the preventative maintenance inspections, repairs, modifications, and testing Lightning Protection Systems in accordance with (IAW) AFMAN32-1065, UFC 3-575-01 and NFPA 780 requirements.
Course content includes how lightning is generated, the damaging effects to personnel, to equipment and to structures. Examples of appropriate zone of protection methods utilizing Integral/Conventional, Masts and Overhead wire (catenary) LP-Systems.
Highlight the importance of material identification for LP applications and use of materials compatibilities to prevent galvanic corrosion. Learn the importance of Surge Protective Devices (SPD) identification and proper applications.
Descriptions of Grounding and Bonding. Review and discuss LPS reference standards provided as class materials which include latest versions of the following: NFPA 780, AFMAN 32-1065, UFC 3-575-01, DESR 6055.09-M, AFMAN 92-201 as applicable for this training.

This is a 4-day workshop designed to provide advanced training for assigned personnel responsible for the design approval, component submittal review, lightning protection and grounding systems acceptance inspection in accordance with UFC 3-575-01 and NFPA 780 Standards.

Discuss various phases of inspection to include final acceptance inspection and LPS system evaluations prior to any facility renovations or remodel projects in accordance with (IAW) AFMAN32-1065, UFC 3-575-01 and NFPA 780 requirements. Brief Refresher on lightning physics and safety measures. Examples of appropriate zone of protection methods utilizing Integral/Conventional, Masts and Overhead wire (catenary) LP-Systems.
